Thunderpants organic cotton and spandex fabric is super stretchy, comfy and easy-fit. There’s no nasty, scratchy elastic that digs in. They are the ultimate comfy, easy-fit undie.
The flat fronted original, hipster and sky rise styles all have the same fit through the leg and butt varying in height. The hipster is low waisted, the original sits around the navel and the sky rise is high waisted.
The flat fronted boxer is a hipster fit with a short boy leg.
See the size guide below to help you choose the right size. If you happen to fall between the measurements, don’t panic! We recommend going up rather than down a size.....they will last longer and be more comfortable if not stretched too far.
The swimwear also follows this standard New Zealand sizing.
This chart includes all styles in the adult range that are not a pouch front but does not include the Cotton Drill A line skirts whose size chart is included in the product description.

Flat Fronted Hipster vs Original/Sky Rise?
These styles are exactly the same in every way except the hipster is shorter in the waist than the original or sky rise. Those of us that have a bit of a tummy roll may wish to choose the original or sky high style as they cover the tummy.
Pouch fronted Boxer vs Brief?
The pouch front boxer is the closer fit option. If you like everything snug with a fitted boxer leg then opt for the boxer. For those that prefer a looser fit, stick with the brief.

What about the kids?
This guide is based on many years of Thunderpants sales. As all children are different we suggest you go with your own intuition a little here. Thunderpants are very accommodating and tend to grow with your child so some children will wear their small undies well into the medium size range. Remember when your child outgrows the children's range they can move into the smaller adults sizes.

The Pouch Boxer has a double layered pouched area providing extra room in the front. Because it is double layered it does act as a gusset, although it doesn't reach quite as far back as our flat fronted styles.
NB: These used to be called Men's Fitted Boxers and have now got an extra bit of height added through the bum.

The Pouch Boxer is sized S-2XL and is more fitted than the Pouch Brief style. This is the option to choose if your like your undies be snug with a short leg. The front gusset is shaped to provide extra room and double layered for extra comfort, containment and help provide shapely lines - good for when you are gadding about in just your Thunderpants.

The Thunderpants fabric is 90% cotton and 10% spandex to give it that super comfy, soft stretchy feel. The waist band is made of softly knitted elastic adding to the enjoyment of your Thunderpants experience. All the garments are made locally and lovingly in New Zealand.

To preserve the vibrant colours and life of the fabric we suggest you do not soak or bleach your Thunderpants items. Use a gentle detergent in a cold machine wash and dry your Thunderpants on the line, not in the drier.
Your Thunderpants are not only super comfy but they are designed to withstand some pretty staunch stuff, so get into them and get on out there!

Clearly stipulated terms on the product advising purchasers to wear underwear underneath when trying on to enable refund. Standard business practice.

We are of course totally happy to refund anything only tried on over underwear for fit, we actively encourage people to try items on for fit as all brands fit differently. However we cannot accept something that is not in original purchased unwashed condition. Our fabric is made in a factory that holds major sustainability and quality certifications, including OEKO-TEX which means everything has been tested against over 1,000 harmful chemicals and is safe for human health. If you prefer to wash items before wearing them, trying on beforehand over underwear is completely safe. If you are happy with the fit it is then fine if you want to wash them before wearing but they cannot be returned at this point. Nga mihi Sophie @ TPHQ

We also make a looser fitting pouch brief style, this can be preferrable if you find them tight on the thigh at all. These deserve 5 stars because the craft and quality is incomparable, but the size chart did me a disservice on this pair --- they are too small in the thighs, and now I am sort of stuck with a pair of undies I've tried on that don't fit... whoops! Still, I swear by my Thunderpants - but it's best to "size up" for me.
Return customer, I love my Thunderpants! I do find sizing a bit hard to get consistently correct. This particular pair is perfect, but I "sized up" with these (chart says I should go medium, but I went large, as I do with other brands). Specifically, the waist is fine either way, but I find the thighs super tight when I go according to the chart. That aside, the quality of Thunderpants is top-notch.

Wonderful in hot weather
I have been a long time customer, since probably 2020. Recently had to replace all my undies because like always the crotch is wearing out. I was moaning to myself about how they just dont make them like they used to and they fell apart really quickly... then I checked my last order and I bought them 3 years ago! I'm pretty happy with 3 years of hard daily use.
I LOVE THUNDERPANTS. They are comfortable. They are quality. They really last. They are fun. They are Made in NZ. Funny story...I met my partner 7 years ago. A friend of hers was telling her she needed 'nicer' underwear if she was going to start dating. With too many other things on her mind she ignored the advice. On our first night together we knew we'd found our perfect match as we both undressed to reveal...you guessed it...THUNDERPANTS !!! I LOVE THUNDERPANTS
The sizing is crazy. I ordered XL, despite normally wearing a L, yet these things fit like they were made for a child.
I buy these for my partner and they are truly the best quality. I’ve bought him other, branded undies and they fall apart in less than half the time that these last.. totally worth the investment, as well as loving the amazing prints and the fact that they are ethically, lovingly made in NZ! Keep up the amazing work Thunderpants!!
