Thunderpants organic cotton and spandex fabric is super stretchy, comfy and easy-fit. There’s no nasty, scratchy elastic that digs in. They are the ultimate comfy, easy-fit undie.
The flat fronted original, hipster and sky rise styles all have the same fit through the leg and butt varying in height. The hipster is low waisted, the original sits around the navel and the sky rise is high waisted.
The flat fronted boxer is a hipster fit with a short boy leg.
See the size guide below to help you choose the right size. If you happen to fall between the measurements, don’t panic! We recommend going up rather than down a size.....they will last longer and be more comfortable if not stretched too far.
The swimwear also follows this standard New Zealand sizing.
This chart includes all styles in the adult range that are not a pouch front but does not include the Cotton Drill A line skirts whose size chart is included in the product description.

Flat Fronted Hipster vs Original/Sky Rise?
These styles are exactly the same in every way except the hipster is shorter in the waist than the original or sky rise. Those of us that have a bit of a tummy roll may wish to choose the original or sky high style as they cover the tummy.
Pouch fronted Boxer vs Brief?
The pouch front boxer is the closer fit option. If you like everything snug with a fitted boxer leg then opt for the boxer. For those that prefer a looser fit, stick with the brief.

What about the kids?
This guide is based on many years of Thunderpants sales. As all children are different we suggest you go with your own intuition a little here. Thunderpants are very accommodating and tend to grow with your child so some children will wear their small undies well into the medium size range. Remember when your child outgrows the children's range they can move into the smaller adults sizes.

These fantastic new Philanthropants were designed by Oli Mollard for The Green Party of Aotearoa. Printed in Australia on regeneratively farmed cotton & sewn right here in the Wairarapa a portion of the sales goes to support the Green Party in the 2026 election season.
The New Improved Flat Front Boxer have a double layered gusset area and a flat front. Because it is double layered it does provide some smoothing, if you need extra room in the front you might need our pouch fronted style.
NB: These used to be called Womens Fitted Boxers.
Just like Pouch fronted Boxer, without the extra room in the front! This is the option to choose if your like your undies to be snug without any leg banding. The front panel / gusset is double layered for extra firmness and helps provide shapely lines - good for when you are gadding about in just your Thunderpants. We have made the elastic a bit slimmer than the Pouch Fronted Boxer to give them a softer feel and a more elegant appearance (in a Thunderpants way).
NB: These are boxers with an ELASTIC WAIST, if you wear and absolutely love your original / hipster Thunderpants and have never worn boxers, these may not be for you! Why change a good thing. BUT if you are a boxer wearer, we have had rave reviews from other boxer wearers, these are apparently the bomb.

The womens fitted boxer is sized S-2XL at this stage and is designed to sit a bit lower than your waist at the top of your high hip area. We recommend the boxer if you do not like restriction in the leg area. Because of the lack of leg banding these will sit very differently for each body shape. The elastic at the top will stop any kind movement so these can be worn for all sporting activities - they are exceptionally good for Roller Derby!

The Thunderpants fabric is 90% cotton and 10% spandex to give it that super comfy, soft stretchy feel. All the garments are made locally and lovingly in New Zealand.

To preserve the vibrant colours and life of the fabric we suggest you do not soak or bleach your Thunderpants items. Use a gentle detergent in a cold machine wash and dry your Thunderpants on the line, not in the drier.
Your Thunderpants are not only super comfy but they are designed to withstand some pretty staunch stuff, so get into them and get on out there.

I remembered my mum's pair of artichoke thunderpants from when I was a kid randomly one day, and decided to see if thundies were still around. They sure are! They're now all I wear and I couldn't be happier :) I'm autistic and have sensory issues, and the cotton used to make thunderpants is all I ever want to wear again (that being said the bamboo is next level, I wish I had bought more than one!). They're incredibly comfy. Bonus that the band is not too tight but they still never slip down! I hope to be wearing thunderpants for life, and possibly converting my partner to them too.
I really like these boxers! They work well and are very gender affirming! I probably would size up next time, as they sometimes roll down or rub when I’m cycling or doing other exercise, but overall big win!
I love em, and my dogs do too lol. (Seriously, three of the pics look bang on for my girls.... pretty choice to inadvertently have your pets on yr bum)

Really disappointed- I had heard good things, but the boxers are too tight (I'm confident I got the right size- I also bought some shorts in the same size, and those fit perfectly). They don't breathe well at all- if I wear them for too long I end up damp and itchy. Very unimpressed.

These boxers are so comfortable and stay in place all day, no matter what I get up too, and the dog print is the best!
Who could walk past this fabric design?? This is first pair of Thunderpants boxers and I’m now a convert (if i can ever wear the other undies out!) Beautifully soft cotton with a luxurious feel from being blended with a touch of quality lycra, these boxers keep me super comfy — everywhere. No bands around the legs to irritate, the cut ensures these boxers stay comfortably in position (except when I slept in them, the legs rolled up). I was most concerned about the elastic waist, as I’m very sensitive to elastics, labels etc. but needn’t have worried; the waist elastic is soft and pliable.
I had thunderpants on my radar for several years but wasn't sure about them. I bought several of the flat fronted boxers recrntly and they are my absolute faves. Very high quality, good fit, fun prints. Will be re-ordering in the future,

The inside feel of the Chrysanthemum fabric should be the same as the Octopus pair you also have as they are on the same base cloth. The outside feel may feel a bit different initially due to the larger and darker ink coverage. It should soften to the same feel over time as you wear and wash them. All our underwear is made from 90% cotton 10% spandex and it is knitted to the same specs. The various dying, printing & finishing processes can slightly alter the feel between colours / prints but they must pass our rigorous testing to be approved to make pants. Ngā mihi The team @ TPHQ

The boxers are quite a different fit to our original & hipsters in that they don’t have a band around the top of the legs. We made these ones for folks who find that restrictive band uncomfortable on their thighs, but it does mean they aren’t kept in a particular position so can ride up too far on some people. I love the shape of these very much, a few things to be aware of are they are printed on bunched fabric rather than the actual fabric being patterned. I also find they are not as soft as I would have liked. That being said they fit perfectly, look amazing and fit well in other clothes.
