Thunderpants; a Stroke of Genius

Right up there with the invention of the light bulb, loo paper, and sliced bread, Thunderpants have undoubtedly changed the World. Created in 1995 by a couple of design students frustrated in irritating undies, they put both their brains and their bums to work creating the ultimate undie.

So what makes Thunderpants the ultimate undie?

We get asked this a lot, and no, it has nothing to do with thighs, farts, or the Thunderbirds. Thunderpants are comfortable underpants that are NZ made, organic, and inclusive – everyone can wear Thunderpants, including your grandma. There are 3 secret ingredients that make Thunderpants the best undies on earth. After sharing they won’t be so secret anymore, but hey, how can we brag if you don’t know what we’re on about?

The secret to Thunderpants is in the banding.  Not a shred of elastic is used; the design of Thunderpants is in perfect harmony with both the thigh and buttock. Our special banding fits in the natural curves of the body, our undies neither ride up nor cut into the bum.  A Thundies wearer will never be caught with a wedgie or unattractive undies line.

The Thunderpants fabric is knitted in New Zealand and made to exact specifications - 92% cotton and 8% lycra. This gives our undies just enough stretch to stay on your bum and bounce back into shape. Since 2010 all Thunderpants fabric is organic, to read more about using certified organic cotton click here.

All of our undies are dyed and printed in New Zealand in exclusive Thunderpants designs. You could say the fabric and fit are the heart and brain of Thunderpants while the prints are the personality.

How To Wear Thunderpants

Some people think Thunderpants are boy leg style underpants, THEY ARE NOT! It is sacrilegious to wear your Thunderpants wrongly; please see below for the proper wearing technique.
